Founding Executive Director
Dr. Monique Smith is the Founding Director of Health DesignED: The Acute Care Design + Innovation Center in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University, an emergency physician at Grady Memorial Hospital, and a thought leader on design thinking in healthcare and equitable tech enabled care. With expertise in service design and systems strengthening, Smith leverages design thinking to reimagine the spectrum of acute care.

Erica Frenkel is the Director of Programs at Health DesignED: The Acute Care Design + Innovation Center in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University. With expertise in strategy, operations, & business development in startups and nonprofits, Erica helps organizations make big bets on equitable tech enabled care.

Special Projects Lead
Matthew McCurdy is the Special Projects Lead at Health DesignED: The Acute Care Design + Innovation Center in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University. Matthew has expertise in systems thinking, advancing health equity, and program management.
DAVID WRIGHT, MD, FACEP
Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine
Dr. David Wright is the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, serves as Vice-Chair for Innovation and Discovery in Emergency Medicine, and leads the Emergency Neurosciences Laboratory. Dr. Wright holds adjunct faculty roles in the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering, and the Rollins School of Public Health.
RISHIKESAN KAMALESWARAN, PHD
Director of Clinical Informatics
Dr. Rishi Kamaleswaran is the Director of Clinical Informatics for Emergency Medicine. With expertise in clinical big data, real-time event stream processing, data analysis, data visualization, and information systems design, Dr. Kamaleswaran is redefining how we collect and analyze data to understand patient health and wellness.
