THE ACUTE CARE DESIGN + INNOVATION CENTER AT EMORY UNIVERSITY
At Health DesignED, we use our health expertise, design thinking, and agile practices to prototype high quality, equitable, tech-enabled acute care. Need an example? From the front-line of the covid pandemic, we piloted a symptom checker as a digital front door to health care, launched an omni-channel engagement to send 1.5 million COVID-19 related health education and resource messages and nudge healthier behaviors, and delivered on-demand virtual care through new channels.
We collaborate with innovators to support the evaluation of new products and practices by leveraging Emory Healthcare’s pre-hospital footprint and five diverse Emergency Departments as a network of Test Beds.
Once innovations have a record of improving quality and equity in patient care, we then support the rapid dissemination and scaling of the innovation to the populations that need them most.

Physician Protection
We partnered to develop Intubation Provider Protection Units to protect physicians providing life-saving care to critically ill COVID-19 patients.

Facial Recognition
We partnered to prototype a touchless auto triage tool that leverages facial recognition to capture key vital signs.

Symptom Checker
We partnered to launch a validated COVID-19 symptom checker with over 1 million uses worldwide.

Tele-EMS
We established a Tele-EMS program to provide virtual care engagement and paramedic assisted interventions for rural residents in Georgia with decreased access to care due to COVID-19. We will also be working globally on a tele-EMS solution for bystanders to supplement the limited pre-hospital resources in Pakistan.

SMS Covid-19
We established a community-based text message campaign to send 1.5 million COVID-19 related health education messages alongside wellbeing resources to 125,000 people who are highly vulnerable to COVID.
